I am foodie and have been so since childhood. From the breakfast before setting out for work to the dinner that I end my meal with, I am my mom’s first consultant when it comes to deciding menus. Though I have travelled a lot and explored dishes around the world, here are a few dishes which have made me fall in love with food. As a friend usually puts it, you can take me out of India but not India out of me, only because of my love for these dishes.
1. Butter Chicken
If you have not eaten this, you have not lived.
2. Misal Pav
Misal is the pride of Maharashtra. Sample the streets of Maharashtra, that’s where you will find the best misal. (PS – This is an extremely spicy dish, not for the faint-hearted)
3. Bangada Fry
Besides feni and cocktails, Goa is also famous for its food. The Bangada Fry is testament to that.
Savoury, soft and fluffy, you will find these snacks in the tiffin of any Gujarati.
5. Mysore Masala Dosa
Don’t be fooled by the Mysore Masala Dosa’s elsewhere. You have only had an authentic Mysore Masala Dosa in South India.
6. Ras Malai
Because no one makes Mishti like the Bangalis!
7. Chicken Stew
An Anglo-Indian specialty which is food for your soul.
8. Tandoori Chicken
Indians have always had a romantic affair with Tandoori Chicken. No festive dinner is complete without it. (Hit ‘Like’ if the leftovers are devoured for breakfast)
9. Rajasthani Lal Maas
The legendary red meat curry of Rajasthan is a fiery combination of mutton, hot spices and a burst of red chillies.
10. Ghar ka dal chawal
If you don’t value your Dal Chawal, ask your NRI friends it’s true worth. Nothing quite hits the spot like warm, comforting Dal Chawal!
